Effects of Temperature and Light on the Germination-Promoting Activity by Melatonin in Almond Seeds without Stratification

Melatonin is a new plant hormone involved in multiple physiological functions plants. Its roles germination, photosynthesis, growth, flowering, fruiting, and senescence are noteworthy. Most studies have focused on its protective role different stress situations, both biotic abiotic. Preliminary data promoting almond seed germination seedling growth presented this work. The germination-promoting capacity of melatonin was studied conditions light temperature, with important differences respect to untreated seeds. confirmed that, at specific concentrations, capable stimulating avoiding the stratification process, therefore, shortening times. Furthermore, melatonin-primed seedlings showed higher root aerial versus seeds when applied. possible agronomic impact propagation stone fruit trees also discussed.
